Hello, Many people with vision impairments would like websites to be created in colours which suit them using fonts which are big enough for them to read. Unfortunately this is not the case with all websites, including bbc.co.uk. While browsers can offer some control over how pages are displayed, many users find browser settings difficult to access and use, limiting in the changes you can make (especially on smartphone browsers), and are frustrated that they have to set up browser settings on each computer or smartphone they use. So the BBC have created a tool to allow our users to change the colours and font sizes of all bbc.co.uk pages so they are in control of how they see the site. MyDisplay allows users to alter the text and background colours, text size, spacing, font or style of the 3 million pages on bbc.co.uk and our mobile site. That's all our news, sport, iPlayer, weather, homepage, everything... MyDisplay works on any computer and browser, even on smartphones like the iPhone or Android phones. It's really simple to turn on, works on computers with locked-down browser and operating settings, and does not require any downloads. It even allows users to store their settings from one PC and reuse them on other PCs or devices. So you could create your preferences at work, and then use them while browsing bbc.co.uk on your computer at home, or your iPhone on the way home. And MyDisplay is completely free. We have user-tested the tool with a reasonable number of its target users - including people with vision impairments, Aspergers, ADHD, dyslexia and literacy difficulties - during its development, and they really like it. We are now eager for more people to try the tool and tell us what they think of it before deciding whether it's ready to launch. So if you think you or someone you know could benefit from MyDisplay, please give it a try by visiting http://bbc.in/kikctK (this is a special URL for the trial which will take you to MyDisplay on bbc.co.uk). And, most importantly, let the BBC know what you think of the tool by emailing mydisplay@xxxxxxxxxx If you like it, there is the possibility of us developing MyDisplay to cater for more of the needs of people with vision impairments in the future, and sharing the technology with other websites so users can get the benefit of their preferences across more of the web. Let us know what you think.
