Simply download the latest AVG, which is 7.5, from http://free.grisoft.com. When the download's complete, run the installation, and when asked if you wish to add/remove components, repair or remove AVG, choose repair. Otherwise the rest of the installation's the same, except you'll be asked to reboot your computer at the end. AVG 7.5 has actually been improved in terms of accessibility, particularly the control centre. The reason why you're getting the "deadline approaching" message is that from 1 January Grisoft is no longer offering or supporting the free AVG 7.1 and therefore advise all AVG customers to upgrade to the latest version. I hope this helps.
