I know it sounds stupid, but I found that if I used enter rather than the space
bar to select "Update from the Internet" and Update now" on the following
screens, AVG gave me exactly the same message... Assuming, that is, that you
are using JFW?

  Subject: [access-uk] AVG problem

  Hi all!

Every time I try and update my AVG virus definitions I am getting a message
saying that an automatic connection to the net couldn't be established and
to do this manually which I find really strange considering I am on
broadband and there's an active connection all the time! Can someone please
throw some light on this one for me! I have tried reinstalling AVG but this
  didn't help! Cheers!

  Graham
