Hi Ray, Rant excused. I'm afraid to say my keyboard is a Logitech. It's handy to use when I'm far enough away from the computer to use a wired keyboard. My F-lock key is on the left, and pressing this, doesn't seem to change the function of Alt+F4. I've also tried all of the other keys, and they take me to Internet, Outlook etc, so no luck so far. I've actually just written a very simple Jaws script to perform the functions of getting to the Exit command on the file menu. So this is a very temporary workaround. Well, rant over. The key in question, at least on this microsoft branded monstrosity of mine, is called the F Lock key (umm, very appropriate!) It sits all by itself, 'cause I guess no other key wants to be associated with it. Its towards the top right, above the numlock key. None of that will be too much help if, say, you've a Logitech or other brand of one of these. I believe there is a work around for these keyboards whereby the F Lock key is off by default, involving a registry modification script. Haven't done that; but I do know these keyboards - and I have two of the horrible things that came with the two computers here - are responsible for royally screwing up my keyboarding and screen reader. Hope some of this may have been of some help, and sorry for the rant. Now, it'll just be a case of trial and error to find which button. With best wishes, Keith -----Original Message----- Steve Nutt Hi Keith, This is something to do with a button on your wireless keyboard. I have seen it before, but not sure which button it is, but there seems to be a button that changes the function of Alt-F4. I have only seen it on clients' machines, because I hate wireless keyboards, they tend to have non-standard drivers. All the best Steve -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Keith Sent: 24 October 2007 09:28 To: Access UK to write message Subject: [access-uk] Alt+F4 Hi all, I have just encountered an odd problem. I am using Windows XP Home with a wireless keyboard, and Jaws 8 (although I have established the problem isn't Jaws-related. The problem concerns using Alt+F4 to close a program. All worked well until yesterday. And then, for no apparent reason, this keystroke stopped working. The Alt key is working fine, as it will bring up a menu, and so is the F4 key. When I press the two, Jaws says Alt+F4, but the program doesn't close, or I am not prompted to close a program when changes have been made. The combination Insert+F4 works fine, when I am prompted to close Jaws. Does anyone have an idea what has happened, and possibly have a fix? Thanks.
