Hi Tony
The button with a dot on it is the actions button, and the other one is to
turn off the microphone so she doesn't hear you. I think they are the
correct descriptions, I never touch them to be honest.
Each skill has a description when you go into it from the app or website,
and tells you what to say to open it. So, for example, if you have the
Guardian, say: "Alexa, open the Guardian," then she gives you prompts from
there.

The good news is that I've now just set up my Dot to Wi-Fi and can get radio
stations and the time in different countries for example but i have just one
or two questions left now I guess.
I'm unsure what two of the buttons on the device are for although I note two
others are for volume?
The other question is where can I find a list of commands to get The Dot to
fulfil my requests effectively and if on the website where therein?

combo box to choose Alexa on the Amazon website that offers loads of
skills, including the newest ones.
You don't need your computer to be on once you have set Alexa up. If
you are adding skills to the device from the Alexa website, these
don't take effect until you have left that site.
