I’m conducting some research this summer to make programming more accessible to
visually impaired people.
If you’re a programmer and you have a bit of time to spare, I’d be very
interested to hear more about your experiences with coding, such as the
techniques you use to navigate, what languages and editors you use, what issues
you face and what you would like to be improved.
More specifically, my research is focussed on the task of overviewing some code
that has been written by another person. So if you were given a class file
containing code you haven’t seen before, what sort of things would you look for
to get an initial understanding of it? What tasks would you do to achieve this?
If you have anything to say about this particular question or about your
experience as a programmer in general, feel free to jump in. I’d be very
interested to hear your views!
