Jackie have you worked for other access technology companies other than the one where you were 2 years in the employment? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Cairns" <jackie.cairnsplace@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi Tony

Thank you. I don't travel too often and this suits me because of my
worsening back condition, but I get out to shows here when I can and of
course love meeting people. As soon as you say to a fellow blind person
that you are indeed in the same boat as them, it makes a world of
difference, and I found that so often in my job with S and S. Indeed, when
it came to the K-Reader, I had a few customers who insisted they wanted a
blind person to train them because it made a difference to how they
perceived the equipment and could get the most out of using it. And with so
many people out of work who could do a good job but don't get a sniff
because they have a disability, it doesn't seem right or fair to me that we aren't being properly represented among assistive technology manufacturers. You'd better believe it, I've seen two sides of this argument having been a
customer for many years and an employee of a company selling it!

Hi Jackie,

All things being equal, certainly a blind person!

Not saying that sighted would not know fully but I feel that a blind person
qualified and so on would be an advantage.

All things being equal I repeat!

A lot of money is paid to S and S by and behalf of the blind so folk bear
that in mind!

Gladd to know that you are doing well in Ireland, like Eleanor, would hope
to meet you at an exhibition sometime; you sound like "a breath of frresh
air" indeed.

Thank you.

They don't have a blind person like myself to go out and demo, train
and
support their Braille products as it currently stands and, in my
honest
experience, there is nobody like a Braillist to really demonstrate
what a
display or other similar hardware can do.

Ask Sight & Sound Catherine. Sight & Sound are aware that it does
not work
with the N97 Mini as I told them. Also informed Freedom Scientific.
Maybe
it has to do with N97 Mini being a 5th generation phone but it works
well
with the other phones. Don't Sight & Sound have a service, well
they did
when Jackie worked there, where someone would come out and show you
a
Braille display, in that case, the person could try it with our
phone and
then you would know before purchasing it. There is a really nice
man at
Freedom Scientific who uses the Focus Blue all the time with his
phone. I
wrote to him too re the drivers but whether they do anything about
it or not
is anyone's guess. While I was disappointed, I have to say of
course that
the Focus Blue is excellent in conjunction with PC also.
