Ok, sorry I've been way too hasty asking for help. As soon as I posted that
message I discovered in the system tray that there's an option to open it
and get headlines. Clicking both options on two separate occasions worked.

Subject: [access-uk] Can't see RSS Reader

Just installed the RSS Reader and after I initially installed and launched
it I had no problem adding feeds and viewing headlines. I did alt+f4 to
close the window but when I hit the desktop icon to open the program up
again half an hour later I got a message saying that 'RSS Reader is already
running' and an 'ok' button. The only visible apps were JFW and Outlook -
the programs I knew were definitely running. It didn't appear to be running
to me so if you could help me out here that'd be great...ta
