You're right, but it's more complex than that. The GPL has
to do with the freedom to copy and distribute, rather than
any restriction on sale; see www.gnu.org for more details.
The GPL is based on the legal concept of copyright, and the
philosophy of "copyleft"; it means free as in freedom,
rather than free as in beer. So, if you can get anyone to
pay for Firefox, it's perfectly legal, but it might not make
you much of a profit, because the source code must be freely
available - so anyone who wants to can have a copy, and
compile and install it themselves. Note that nobody is
forced to make installable binaries for any operating system
- they do that out of good will!
