Hi Amro: Should be much better as HTML5 means they don’t need to use any proprietory software such as flash to let visitors play media content. There will just be media controls right there in the web page. However it will still depend on them coding correctly. Broadly it’s positive as they’re getting round the fact that it’s relatively difficult to code accessible flash compared to accessible html, you need he right tools etc, however given that there aren’t any web browsers that support html5 yet, or certainly not stable releases of those that work with screenreaders, it’s going to be quite some time until they can rely on all visitors having a browser that supports html5 – look for example at how many businesses are still using internet explorer 6. In the interim they could lok at using an already accessible flash player to plug their content in to. They are freely available. Best Adrian Higginbotham Manager, leading edge research. Only I've emailed a website complaining about their video player not being that accessible and they wrote back saying that they are switching to HTML5 in the future, and that should be more accessible to screen reader programs. Damn, they pot me in the spot! Should I reply saying, well done... I'm looking forward..., or, HTML5 isn't any better than flash... you need to...? The site in question is http://www.livestation.com/ Incidentally, VoiceOver on my iPad can see the play button alright on this site, while JFW11 on IE8 can't deal with any of the video buttons. Any hints will be welcomed!
