I'm pasting in a section from an article from last week's Sunday Times about
services. The trend seems to be towards services like the ones below
offering huge storage space. I think www.fastmail.fm is free though.

PAID-FOR SERVICES. Alien Camel -www.aliencamel.com, Pounds 2.80 per month or
Pounds 9 for six months Pros Some of the best spam and antivirus filtering
around. Unlimited storage space for personal mail.

Cons Limited webmail; primarily a clever Imap store, accessible through PCs
or Apple Macs.

FuseMail -www.fusemail.com, Pounds 11.20 per year for one address, 350MB of
storage and five consolidated external accounts Pros Superb webmail
interface with a host of simple yet sophisticated features, such as RSS news
folders, make this a strong contender for the most powerful Imap- based
e-mail service. Packages with Outlook synchronisation go up to 1.25GB.

Cons Pricey when you move beyond the basic features. Outlook calendar and
address-book synchronisation are still being developed.

MailSnare -www.mailsnare.net, Pounds 11.20 per year for one address and
100MB of storage; Pounds 50.50 for five addresses and 500MB of storage Pros
Small, well-established, specialist US mail provider, with phenomenal
technical support and helpful forum. Mailsnare's sophisticated web interface
also offers a calendar, address book and file storage (though no
synchronisation), plus plenty of power features.

Cons Storage allocation is a little low.

.Mac -www.mac.com, Pounds 56 for one user, Pounds 101 for five-user family
pack Pros The most advanced service for synchronisation of e-mail, calendar,
bookmarks and address books. With added backup, parental controls and
storage features too.

Cons Only of real benefit to Mac owners, and expensive unless you use all
the features. The backup service can be unreliable, and Apple has dropped
the free antivirus product for its latest operating system, Tiger.

MSN Premium -www.msn.co.uk, Pounds 60 per year for up to 11 mail accounts,
2GB of storage, antivirus software. Two-month free trial Pros Astonishing
value for a Windows PC-based family, offering mail through Hotmail Plus,
antivirus and firewall protection, consolidation of other accounts, parental
controls, plus extras such as the online version of Encarta Premium and a
30MB store for photos.

Cons This is a "never mind the quality, feel the width" collection of
different products, some excellent, some iffy. Outlook synchronisation is
clunky, the range of options on show can be terribly confusing, and
everything is designed to lead you to Microsoft products and software, from
computers to phones.

Subject: [access-uk] Free web based e-mail accounts

Hi everyone,
Can anyone recommend a free web based e-mail account apart from the obvious
ones like Yahoo, Hotmail or Google. I need some e-mail storage, but nothing

extra large. Also, of course, I need a site that's screen reader friendly.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Sandra.
