Hi Mel

I think Freelists are very good - no spam, no ads and no downtime yet. 
Remember that this list is on Freelists.  The only thing is that they 
stipulate that any list set up on their site must be about "technology".
In 
practice this seems to be quite a broad brief
 and looking at some of the other lists that have been set up on 
freelists.org, it would seem to be applied fairly flexibly, and might be 
more of a mechanism to avoid people creating frivolous lists on a whim.
