I hate to say this, but it sounds like the exercise needs to
be repeated. Is the PC still under warranty?

Card readers do tend to come under the guise of what is
called an "HID" - Human Interface Device - and so don't
usually need drivers.

George.

Hi George,

Yes. The engineer physically removed the card readers and
refitted them in. I didn't have to reinstall any drivers for
the reader to work. BTW, I've now looked through the CD's
that came with my machine but couldn't find any drivers for
the card readers anyway.

Cheers,

Amro

        Hi Amro,

You said "..sorted by someone removing them and
refitting them back in." Does this mean that they
physically removed them? In other words took the unit out
of the machine and re-fitted it?

        George.

Not sure if the below message has reached the
list... Further more, I tried restoring my system to an
earlier point now and it didn't work. So I'd really
appreciate any help.

        Hi again George,

Not sure. Never had to install any drivers for the
readers; they came already fitted in the main tower. I think
that they're plug and play readers. Few weeks back something
similar happened and it was sorted by someone removing them
and refitting them back in. What are my options to sort
these kind of problems? Reboot, scan for hardware changes,
mess around with the hardware manager, reinstall the drivers
if I have them on a CD, physically reinstall the device, and
what else please? I'd like to leave the option of restoring
my system to an earlier point as the last result as it's a
work around the issue rather than solving it. Many thanks
for your help.

        Cheers,

        Amro
