For those of us with hearing impairment who struggle to hear quieter devices through earphones like the second gen stream there may be a solution.

I have just purchased a headphone amplifier on eBay.

This is a small USB Charged device less than half the size of a credit card and about three times as thick. It could easily be taped onto a portable device. It works by taking the output from an earphone jack, with one of 2 supplied leads, a short lead about 2 or 3 inches or a longer lead if this is needed. The shorter lead will probably be most useful. There is a slider switch on one side which you have to slide an hold for a few seconds to turn the device on. On the other side is a rocker switch with which you can increase or decrease volume. There is a normal 3.5mm socket for your earphones or headphones to receive the amplified output.

Whilst the volume gain is not enormous the quality seems unaffected by any distortion and it succeeded in increasing the volume output from the Second Gen Stream Radio to a level comparable to that provided by the Plextalk devices or the first generation Stream.

I have just purchased a second unit to try and improve the output from a very quiet digital radio I own.
