I think the language detection setting can be rather found in text
processing in the config manager. That's in Jaws 7 and 8. Not sure
about
Jaws 6, haven't check it.

JawsKey+6 on the top row to bring up the configuration menu.
choose the HTML settings from the set options menu and in the text
tab,
tab to the detect languages item and uncheck it.
