Hi Saqib.Braille note takers date back to a time when PC's were a hell of a lot more expensive than they are now, along with braille displays when you factor in the access technology needs of the average note taker user. It wasn't uncommon to spend upwards of a grand on your computer, 500 on the access tech in the form of a screen reader and then 2 or maybe 3 thousand on a braille display. Note takers put all of these elements, plus a generally easy to use if highly limited user environment in to one comprehensive package. Times have changed I agree, but the note takers are following their natural evolution. They still have a place for many blind professionals who want a targeted, effective and highly efficient way of making notes but I agree, the technology in these machines is abysmal and both hardware and software need radical upgrades if they are to survive as a niche product in what is already a well overcrowded market.
All the best, Ibrahim.-----Original Message----- From: Saqib

What I can't understand is why are people still using clapped out equipment like Braille Note Takers or what ever they are to view websites. There are plenty of mainstream products out there for us to use and cost a fraction of the price of these Getto products. -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Amanda Burt Sent: 02 January 2015 15:47 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Jackie's website I agree with Steve We have to keep updating because old software won't work. Hi Jackie, Just to add, and this will be my last word, that your objective was also to have the web site somewhat visually appealing as well. To do that on the plethora of phones, tablets, PCs that people may use them on, we have to create what's called an adaptive web site. This means it adapts to the screen size you are using. Because of this clever software, the older browsers simply can't cope. That's about as simply as I can explain it. But we will do our best where possible to make it work for as many people as possible. As far as I am concerned, Steve has done his best to create a website that is accessible to "most" situations. The fact that people choose to use older versions of Windows and Internet Explorer, or the limited capabilities of note-taker browsers, isn't Steve's responsibility. Our objective is to make the site usable and provide a purpose, and it complies in both instances. So we don't clutter the list with unnecessary traffic, please feel free to drop me a line off list if you are having specific difficulties, and I can then liaise with Steve to resolve the problem as best as possible. Thanks, and a happy new year to you all. In other words, xp and note taker users will likely not change, just because something is not working. They will either mobilise it, or will find a new resource. But at the end of the day, its not our choice, how sites are layed out. ----- Original Message ----- From: christopher hallsworth <challsworth2@xxxxxxxxxx To: "access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx" <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Thursday, 1 January 2015 7:02 am Subject: [access-uk] Re: Jackie's website Sorry but have to agree here.
