This is a really personal thing, I find the speech perfectly acceptable and have read several non-fiction and a couple of fiction titles on both the Kindle and the PC software.
If you can bare the voice, the ability to buy books from a massive and ever increasing selection of books is really worth it. Twice now I've been able to buy books just as they've come out, Agger's Ashes and the memoir of a fighter pilot who served in Afghanistan.

Ibrahim, For my 2 cents worth, I think the voice is pretty bad and with the software's inability to deal with certain punctuation structures, particularly dialogue, it can be a bit frustrating. Again, my opinion only. Need to find a way to convert kindle content to text. John Galegher's demo of the Kindle is on Blindcooltech I believe, also youcould just download the Kindle PC software and get one of the free titles totest out the speech. You will have to use the TTS that the Kindle supports. I’m thinking of giving kindle a go, as in downloading and reading some free books on my laptop using the accessible kindle application from Amazon. I appreciate this has been discussed a great deal over the last few months, however I just want to know whether the accessibility plug in for the software will allow me to read books using jaws, or will I be expected to listen to a SAPI synthesiser voice like Daniel when reading any TTS enabled titles. All the best and please feel free to write me off list to avoid unnecessary traffic. ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
