Yes Andy, You can change your XP Pro laptop to XP home if you purchase the XP Home software. You might have to download some drivers from the laptop manufacturers website, such as for instance if you had a Toshiba P100 you would need to download Toshiba soundd devices, TOSHIBA CONTROLS, TOSHIBA POWER MANAGEMENT UTILITY, etc,. They are all available on the toshiba site, but it can be a bit of a pain. It would be best to turn your laptop into a service department and have a service technician do it for you. But it can be done. I have done it twice in the past, but Its easy because I have all these files backed up on a disc. The first time though was a challenge.
