you will probably get different opinions on the usefulness of memory manager utilities. Some people swear by them while others consider them a waste of resources.

A memory manager cannot give you more ram than your system has and anything running in the background takes up resources.

I personally do use a memory managing utility, namely the free Freeram XP Pro from

I have my machine up 24,7 and find that with a lot of programs open, this seems to help memory leakage. I have Freeram set to free memory automatically every half hour.

Additionally you might want to manually set the size of your swap file (virtual memory to 1.5 times the size of your physical ram.

For use with access technology, especially when using software speech, I personally would recommend at least 512 megs of ram. more never hurts but adds to stability and responsiveness.

Hi,

Is it worth running a programme such as ramboost under XP Home? My memory resources seem to be running low, i.e. 384 mb total, and 111 mb available. Or is it time for a memory upgrade?

Thanks for help,

Mike
