Yes fair enough point but what I am asking is if there is any way I can look up 
on the computer how much memory is currently in use.

  Windows 2000 does what any window system does and that is create vertual 
memory space on the drive when there isn't enough to run in RAM.

    I want to check up on how memory is being used on my very old laptop 
running Windows 2000.  As it only has 256 MB RAM I do not want to overstretch
