Hi Jackie
I've got two mics here that I find great for outdoor use.
I have used an Audio Technica BP4025 which is a single point stereo mic. I have also used a Senheisser MK416 mono reporters mic.
If you want real effective protection from wind etc, you could do worse than getting the appropriate Rycott wind jammer kits. 
I know that there are windjammers for both these particular mics.
