Steve, I think I'll join the cynics club too! I'm very glad that a site has put so much thought into developing an accessible site, but you're right when you ask if it can actualy do the job it sets out to do. As I understand it, YouSearched collates search results from a variety of sources which may mean an inconsistancy in the standard of results. Google uses a quite specific system for scoring and delivering results. This leads me to wondering how YouSearched will deal with certain search results. Because Google uses a very good system for returning results it goes a fair way to preventing unwanted entries appearing on the page. If YouSearched collates results from external sources I can't imagine what kind of prevention they can put in place to minimise pornographic or warez results on unrelated serches. I do like the directory approach and think that the way YouSearched has coded the pages to use headings to mark each category is excellent. Google does supply a directory search, but I find the page slightly more difficult to move through. I think that Google allows more specificity of searching, within the UK only for instance, but I think that both Google and YouSearched support boolean searching with apparent equality. What I dislike about the YouSearched site is that the accessibility is too much. A curious opinion for a blink perhaps, but like yu said, if you're familiar with your technology this degree of assistance may be unwelcome. For me, Google remains my prefered search engine. I'm familiar with the interface, I like the interface, I find the results useful and reasonably accurate and it puts accessibility in its place: seamlessly integrated into a mainstream design.
