Hi,

Just to let people know - in case anyone else gets the same problem - I solved this by uninstalling everything flash related via the Windows Control Panel. I'd already tried the uninstaller from Adobe but that didn't fix the problem. When I uninstalled via Control Panel I didn't get any message asking if I was sure or confirming uninstallation which was strange, but it then did disappear from the list of programs. I then installed again from the Adobe site and so far everything's working fine.

Thank you Benjamin - I've tried this and it doesn't seem to have worked. Will have to do some more investigation...

Try this Catherine.

1. Download the Flash Player uninstaller at:

http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe

2. Run the uninstaller using the instructions here:

http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157

3. Download the Flash Player ActiveX installer from this direct link:

http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe

4. Close all programs (especially Internet Explorer) and then run the installer.

5. Open Internet Explorer.

6. Follow Microsoft's instructions for enabling scripting in Internet Explorer:

http://support.microsoft.com/gp/howtoscript

7. Try YouTube again.

Note that some assistive technologies can block Flash content, e.g. there's a JAWS verbosity setting that blocks Flash:

http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_products/Surfs_Up/difficult_pages.htm

So make sure your assistive technology (if any) isn't interfering with Flash.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

I'm trying to watch a video on youtube and get the message that I either have javascript turned off or an older version of flash player. So I try to download the latest version of flash and have problems. I untick the checkbox saying download google toolbar, tick the checkbox saying I agree to terms, and click download. Then the beep meaning Internet Explorer is blocking something happens, and I go to the information bar or whatever it is and click install activex control. Then it seems like the page refreshes and that beep happens again, but this time there is no warning about an activex control. This happened too when a sighted friend tried to do it - there is definitely no warning the second time despite the beep noise.

I only installed flash pretty recently so I'm inclined to think that's probably not the problem anyway. I was watching yout ube videos fine before I upgraded Internet Explorer. So I wonder if the problem is javascript switched off. I went into Internet Options in the security page and changed settings I thought might be relevant but this hasn't made any differences.

Has anyone got any suggestions either about installing flash or changing javascript settings? Which specific setting do I need to look at? Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Catherine
