Try a cordless doorbell - just put the chime unit at the location you want
to return to and carry the bell push in your poccket, when you want the
location again, press the bell push et voila, without continuously
broadcasting to the local community...

What about the dog??? (I've used mine in a garden before.)
Also wind chimes are quite effective. I don't know if you can still get
those key rings that respond when you call or clap your hands . . . but
it might be worth looking for something simple and cheap like that. Of
course, if you can afford to do so, you might want a fountain in your
garden. The gentle running water is very soothing - and has various
other effects too . . .. A radio strategically placed by the kitchen
door might help you in finding your way back from the lawn.
I can't think of anything more right now but hope something grabs you
there!
