[access-uk] Some help on using public wifi please

Hi
We are having problems up-dating my mum's garmin, I have
tried getting the downloads but it is impossible on my
dialup, even on my 3g it is taking a very long time. My mum
is thinking about using a public wifi at mcdonalds for
example, what security precautions should she take to
protect her laptop?
