Hi Stuart.

Yes, essentially its just like a cassette dubbing system, copying the audio from the original to a blank file, in this case an unprotected mp3 file. It can rip at binominal speed with certain files, but with Audible and some other content it rips at a ratio of 1:1 so it'll take as long as the source audio takes to play through to complete the rip.

All the best, Ibrahim.

I think the way it gets round the security is by simply playing the
file internally using the proprietary player (quicktime, audible etc )
then recording what would be coming from the speakers. Thats why it
cant go faster than the original players can play the files. ( ie
realtime or some slight speed up )
To be honest you could do the same yourself with the player in
question on a machine and something like audacity or sox to record the
output.

Thanks Ibrahim,

is it freeware, or what price tag does it have?

Thanks,
Clive

Hi Clive.

Sound Taxi is a file converter. Its chief purpose is to convert DRM
protected content like that from certain music and audio book distributors in to unprotected mp3 files compatible with just about any player and mobile
phone. Obviously, the material can only be converted for personal use.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hello all,

I'm fairly new to the list, and until I jumped into the middle of the
thread, I'd never heard of Sound Taxi. Please can someone explain what it
does? You may wish to explain off list so as not to bug those who don't need
to go through what to them will be old news.

Thanks,
Clive

Subject: [access-uk] Sound Taxi Question

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a way Sound Taxi can stop converting a file,
and continue where it left off later on, such as the next day.

Thanks.
