[access-uk] Sound card suitability information needed

Hello All,
I haven't bought a sound card for years and now need one for my Windows
8.1 64 bit PC. The onboard motherboard card works fine for playback but,
as with all of these sorts of cards, it is as good as useless for
recording at a decent volume.
I don't need anything fancy, as I only wish to use it for basic playback
and decent volume recording. A USB or PCI card would both be fine.
Does anyone know of what is now available to meet these basic needs and
which will work on Win 8.1 64 bit.
Any up-to-date details would be appreciated.
