Hi Gordon,

Mike and I are both  totally blind and therefore shared your frustration with 
this problem.

We find that it works much better to start the box first so use the standby 
button and then give the box a good half minute to a minute to power up 
properly. Then you should have no problem in getting your TV to work. Of 
course, you will get a problem from time to time, but it will be much less and 
you'll get used to the timings.

If you put your ear very Near to the box as you start it, you can actually hear 
the box booting up
