Irony is I would have done this in my sleep when I could see to solder
cables and stuff.

And the RNIB will charge you over ten quid for sneezing.

I like the idea, but not sure whether I can directly name the audio
device in the NVDA config. I have a couple of plug in USB sound
devices, so this might be possible.

I am a bit of a dinosaur in some respects, because I prefer cables and
plugs and sockets to software, or juggling several expensive devices
which would invariably be either totally inaccessible on the PC because
the person who wrote it thinks what the customer wants is bling instead
of pure function, or it would stop working exactly when the bank phones
me to tell me I've been robbed.

Give me plugs and sockets instead of VOIM (voice over magic) or
plug-and-pray.

Hi,

If I may ask, why would any sort of specialized box/splitter be
needed? It seems to me Mike can do everything quite easily as long as
he gets the sound into the PC somehow. He can assign the screen reader
to one sound card and the audio from the phone to another, then run a
3.5 MM male to RCA male splitter from each soundcard to an RCA joiner
(2 RCA female to 1 3.5 MM female). His headset would then receive one
channel from the screen reader sound card and one from the phone
soundcard. Total cost shouldn't be over £10 unless he wants to buy the
usb sound device from a local store rather than online. From the
prices I've seen through RNIB, £10 would be lower than what they would
charge.
