Couldn't agree more, Jackie. This TVonics box looks like exactly what I need at the moment, and I can only celebrate a mainstream product that has accessibility features. It's a real result!

Hi Ibrahim I couldn't agree with you more as regards Will's negativity. All you do Will is clutter the list with your moans and groans about high technology costs, and how much cheaper you can get some of these products for. And even when people have the good grace to help you with the often irrelevant questions you raise, it still doesn't satisfy you. Perhaps it is just me, in which case, I apologise. But do try to take on board what listers are posting in response to the questions you raise, and avoid cluttering our inboxes with your constant griping! Sorry mod!! (smile). As regards this new product, we have held off buying an accessible Freeview box until we could purchase one that records. Now this has arrived, I haveabsolutely no doubt we will add this to our portfolio of assistive technology. This is not some piece ofjunk, this is a top quality commercial PVR Freeview tuner with full text to speech, even the menus and virtually all other functions are accessible withthe exception of internet and teletext, well worth it at twice the price. The recorder even looks the piece, a really well designed and well crafted piece of equipment. All the best, Ibrahim. -----Original Message----- From: william lomas Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2012 6:57 PM To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Tvonics Freeview Talking Recorderfrom RNIB for 179 pounds still expensive when a sighted person can get thiskind of book for what 50 60 quid? Pretty much every feature speaks apart from the BBC Iplayer. The box is of course upgradable so it may well be possible for Tvonics to make the Iplayer speak. I really don't think this is a major downside as everything else on the box is accessible. The speech is smooth and responsive, you can add, delete and edit timers, You can series link tv/radio programs and much more. When fast forwarding and rewinding you have audio feedback as to how far you have moved through the program. A couple of years ago it was looking as if an accessible PVR would be in the range of £500/600 but we have a box for almost a quarter of that figure. I don't think anyone will be dissapointed by either the features or the performance of this box. It's what we've been waiting for.
