[access-uk] Using automated phone systems on the iPhone

Hi,

 

Whenever I call a call centre on my iPhone that requires me to select an
option such as my bank or mobile phone company, I can only get the keypad to
talk by holding the iPhone flat.  However, this has the effect of putting it
on speaker phone.  When I hold it upright close to my head, nothing happens
when I tap the screen.  I'm using an iPhone3GS.

 

Is this normal or is there a way I can get it to work without putting it on
speaker phone?
