OK both. Many thanks for the explanation. Makes sense. Although I created a
clean restore point as it were after I finished cleaning my machine last night,
I've just went back and deleted all old restore points, turned system restore
back on, scanned my machine again and no baddies were found so all is well and
clean now.

If you are interested here's the full story. All my machine scans with ESET and
Malwarebytes have always reported a clean machine including the last scan in
October. Last night I lowered my guard for only few minutes and turned ESET
firewall and virus scan off to test something. During this I got a Skype call.
No one was at the other end so I terminated the call quickly. When I then
scanned my computer ESET reported 13 infiltrations. It could've been just a
coincidence, but if it was, it is a strange one!

Cheers,
Amro
