Thanks for this very helpful reply, Tristram.  In the circumstances I think 
that I can safely 
afford to defer the updating for a little time.  I have been delaying the 
switch to broadband 
becausefor some time a move to a new house has seemed imminent, but I am 
beginning to 
think that I will have to take the plunge, even if it means going through the 
process twice.  If 
not, your suggestion of getting a friend to download it to cD for me might be 
an attractive 
alternative.
