The WEP key is in fine and the phone is connected to the router. When I try to
go online I get no gateway reply message.

Barbara, presumably your other computers all had the WEP key correctly
installed ...
It is more difficult to be so accurate on the phone sometimes and I know from
experience I've had to try a few times to get a WEP key to stick on occasions,
and it's usually been something I've done wrong.
I apologise if I'm suggesting you haven't done it quite correctly, and this
is by no means a criticism, but because I know I've done it myself and it's so
easy to do.
If however you know it's all correct, (upper and lower case included), I
really dunno but hope someone does!
Frustrating ... I know!
