Hi George/Andy

I have a Netgear DG834 wireless router and I also have a VISTA laptop
running full WPA encryption, not to mention a couple of Macs hooked up
to it via wireless and ethernet. Suffice to say that the router plays
ball with all of them and I have had not needed to change the router
because of the VISTA machine. I cannot see a problem with the web
interface in VISTA, but it is possible that something might pop up out
of nowhere on that front because of the extra security in the browser
now.

One area I think this particular router may fail is with more advanced
things like uPnP discovery. However there is some good argument to say
that this feature is a security risk too far anyway. It is an old
router up to 802.11g so it is not particularly fast wireless connection
though adequate for most uses.

If you wanted complete peace of mind and were envisaging an all VISTA
setup soon then I would go for the more expensive Netgear at least which
claims VISTA capability, it would still be cheaper than a Draytek
although I am sure that is very good as well if you can stretch to it.

Regards.

Hi Andy,

Impossible for me to take sides on any manufacturer, but
personally speaking, and of course from my business point of
view, I was introduced to Drayek Vigor routers by a blind
system administration person who must remain nameless.
http://www.draytek.co.uk/

Although these guys have a very simple web based interface,
and are probably more expensive than others, as far as I am
concerned they have proved to be very reliable.

But see what others say here about what they have got.

George.

Hi George -

Well I do use Vista now, on the laptop! So maybe I should be
looking at
other manufacturers other than Netgear? I'm aware of
Linksys, but have read
quite a lot of reviews where people have had problems with
the installation,
and with loss of connection! -

| Frankly, Andy, I'd be looking for Router/Modems which work
| with both XP AND Vista. You may not need Vista now, but
at
| least you will know they are as up to date as possible.

| Hi George -
|
| So, is this to say that going for the more expensive 2005
| model would be
| best? There doesn't seem to be anything more up-to-date
than
| that; Netgear
| have given links on their site to download drivers for all
| of their models
| to be compliant with Vista -

|| Hi Andy,
||
|| Can I be very blunt? 2003 to 2008 is 5 years. Five
years
|| is how often Microsoft introduce operating systems. Just
|| look at it. Windows 98. Windows XP. Windows Vista.
||
|| No wonder it's such a low price.

|| George.
