Well, It's just me and this machine at home :] How do I check if I have
administrator rights, and if I haven't, how do I change this?

thanks - Andy

you should be able to change these settings but only if you have
administrator rights. if you have only user level rights, tough luck!
you'll just have to make sure you log on as an administrator or get someone
from IT to do this if it is a work machine you are on then hopefully all
should work OK.

Cheers

Ray - no apply button, what happens when I click on the ok button, it
doesn't close out, staying sat on the ok button, and when I clicked it
again, it appeared that what had been checked got unchecked, and what had
been unchecked got checked, and in the end, I wasn't sure what needed to be
checked, and what didn't, that's why I'm asking for confirmation for the 16
items in this list, in respect of what to check, and what to uncheck. - Andy

I won't claim to be too familiar with the settings you are changing, but is
there an apply
button in the dialogues? If so, then use that before the okay button. This
could be why
changes aren't taking effect.

Hi all - have made all the recommended changes for XP to work well with JFW,
apart from under system, as so far, the changes aren't holding, by that I
mean unchecking certain check boxes and hitting ok doesn't keep the selected
changes! I know I need to do the following:

System Properties Dialog.

2. Press CTRL+TAB to move to the Advanced page.

3. Press ALT+S to activate the Performance Settings button. The

Performance Options Dialog opens.

4. Clear the following check boxes:

a. Animate Windows when Minimizing and Maximizing.

b. Slide open Combo Boxes.

c. Smooth-scroll List Boxes.

d. Use Visual Styles on Windows and Buttons.

5. Press ENTER to close the Performance Options dialog and return to the

System Properties dialog box.

6. Press ENTER to activate the OK button and close the System Properties

dialog box.

What I now need to know, is which of the remaining 12 entries under
performance need to be checked, as they have all changed from my original
list!

Thanks - Andy
