[access-uk] accessible twitter

Hi
I am using accessible twitter. If I want to send a direct message to someone who isn't following me it says I can do it in the regular status box by using, and this is where I am getting confused. My speech is saying d plus username. Is this correct or when it is saying plus does it mean some other symbol?
