hello,
I would like to add some extra USB2 and serial ports to my new computer.
I have the hardware to add 4 extra USB2 ports, (this is a card)
1 serial port, also via a card, and another 2 serial ports on a 2 port USB to
serial converter, as at the moment, my machine doesn't have any serial ports at
all.
what I would like to know is,
first, with the cards, do I fit them first, then install the drivers if XP-pro
doesn't have them already, or do I put the drivers on first, then fit the cards?
second, are there any problems with using 3 serial ports under XP-pro? (I ask
this, as I well remember the aggravation I used to have on all my pre win98
machines that had more than 2 serial ports, and all of them since have only had
2 or less)
third, has anyone had any other problems with these cards or converters under
XP-pro, and if so, what were they, and how easy were they to fix please?
unfortunately, as my quest to find a USB speech synth at a reasonable price has
been a total disaster to say the least, I do need to have 3 serial ports, as I
do not want to use software speech, as I will be using the computer for audio
work, so I need one for a speech synth, another for my nokia communicator
cable, and a third for controlling/updating my motorised satellite system.

Simon
