Hi there,

My friend made one of these for detecting rain using a liquid level
indicator and a speaker. The indicator sits on the outside shed, the
speaker in the house. He's done some wizardry with the wiring to make it so
he presses a button and it will then activate the speaker if there is
moisture on the indicator.

Is this something along the lines of what you were looking for?

HTH.
