I'd only add to the informative post below that I'm not in a position
to get Sky, at least not directly, where I live, that is, if I did
want it. Still having a little sight, I can manage to set up
recordings - well, if I take the time to learn, (smile).
From the recording angle, then it would seem that posts from Brian
Hargen suggest that the Netgem Tuners for computers are the way to go
if you need accessible recording facilities. that does involve having
a PC, but there are many quiet ones available now. There may well be
advantage in using a Media Center PC too, but I believe JfW users need
the 'Pro' version of JAWS to use that.

if you don't need to replace your current tv, sky+ seems to be the
cheapest
and only digital system which gives us access to all channels, audio
description broadcast on any channel, plus total control when
recording or
playing back any programme on any radio or tv channel in the uk, with
no
potential for accidental programme erasure, the option of recording
two
programmes simultaneously, setting up daily, or weakly series links.
All
this can be done manually without using your computer, and without
using the
tv screen. The system is foolproof and pretty well idiot-proof, and
is
extremely reliable.

At the monent, no freeview pvr's are particularly impressive, and none
provide audio description.
so, for those of us who are visually bereft, sky+ is the only digital
