my understanding is that the Trekker is made by Visuade originally. this
company has been taken over by Humanware. Pulsedata have also been taken
over by Humanware so Humanware would be the logical company to ask about
trekker. Contact Humanware on the old pulsedata phone number
01933 626000.

I may be wrong about this one but if not, it seems strange that Sight &
Sound still market this.

I think you are right to wait for smaller bluetooth options to appear on the
market.

Cheers

Hi John

Could you tell us where you got the receiver and what's so good about it
compared to others? I'm getting one very soon, I've just ordered a Nokia
6630 and will be getting Talks as soon as that comes through, followed by
Wayfinder. I saw a Fortuna GPs receiver on Expansys.co.uk for around the
same price, do you have any experience with those?

To Answer your questions about the Trekker, I think it might use Bluetooth,
but the whole setup is bigger because it's running on a PDA that you have to
carry around entirely for the sake of the Trekker software, no other part of
the machine is accessible. We went on the demo at sight village, they
didn't seem very sure about the performance of their receiver in marginal
signal areas, and my sighted friend said it would make me stand out and look
like an alien, because you have to wear a strap round your middle and the
GPs receiver is high up. So because of that, and the high price of the
trekker, I have decided to go down the Wayfinder route, even though it might
be a little bit less slick and 'rough around the edges'.
