Hi David,
Also, I get the feeling that these annual upgrades don't really amount too
that much. In your, and the lists opinion, when was the last trueley
significant / innovative upgrade? In other words, what new features or
improvements have FS added to Jaws to justify the high price of these
upgrades?

There is a sneaky game which Freedom Scientific play where they try
to persuade you to purchase an SMA. Using this process you will get rights
to upgrade to 2 versions of Jaws for pretty much the price you are currently
having to pay for the single price you are now being quoted.
The catch is that you have to purchase this by a deadline to get the SMA
price and you have to have the current version of Jaws already to qualify
for the SMA scheme. Basically as soon as Jaws goes into beta for the next
version it is worth renewing your SMA if you want to stay in the scheme.
This wis why the upgrade price offered by FS during Summer Exhibitions is
not such a good deal as you might imagine as it of course only kept you
current for a few months and you will then need to purchase an SMA if you
want to keep current without paying the full upgrade price.
I an an reluctant payer of an SMA and I think there are many others. It
appears that Jaws is still the primary cscreenreader according to he survey
results distributed on this list a few days ago.

Hi List,
I had to call Sight and Sound to enquire about an unrelated issue and
while
I was there I asked what the price is to upgrade from jaws 17 to the
latest
18. I learned that the price is now £150. I believe that at Sight
Village
that the upgrade was being sold for £99.
All I can say is that I wont be purchasing jaws 18 I might just donate
money
to NVDA development.
What an absolutely bare faced rip off.
