Hi Will, an optical cable. A digital cable's used for digital audio. They've put it there in case people have TV setups that can take an optical feed. It could also be used for taking a feed to a cd recorder. or minidisk recorder.

It's just there for those who need it. If you don't just ignore it.
                   John.

what can you plug in to this socket please john?
can you plug a phon cable and the other end in to a pc to record something from your box direct o say a hard drive in windows?

Thanks Jackie, glad to know it wasn't just me. I can only imagine the RNIB have been removing them for reasons best known to themselves, as I shouldn't think the manufacturer would send them out like that.

Hi everybody, a little question to all with the TVonics box. The optical
socket should have a stopper in it to protect it. on mine it's missing. I'd
be interested to know if it's just mine or if none of them have them.
For those unacquainted with optical sockets it's under the scart, next to
the power. It should have a little plastic stopper plugged into it.
                  John.
