HiI am also running nvda at the same time and although I could get into the boxes to input the characters it still did not tell me which characters from my password were required. (yes I am using the latest supernova).

I am sure this has been reported before by another Super Nova user. Are you using the latest build? I know this problem does not exist with Voiceover, System Access, JAWS or NVDA.
