If the items you want to get rid of are really on the startup group then you
can try the following method which does not involve going into MSConfig utility
with all the hazards that entails.
1 Open Start > Programs > Startup and press enter to open the group.
2 With arrow keys locate desired startup item to be deleted.
3 Press application key or shift+f10 on the item.
4 Use up or down arrow to locate the option "delete" in the context menu and
press enter on it to delete the item.
5 You will be asked confirmation to delete to which you can obviously ascent
or not in the usual manner.

Subject: [access-uk] removing programs from startup?

  hello list,
does anyone know how to remove programs from the start-up group, so that they
do not start when windows does?
there are quite a few in my start-up group, that don't really need to be
running at start-up, and are just hogging computer resources, but I can't seem
to figure out how to remove them.
  I am using win98SE.
