Derek, I have both of them and use both of them for scanning. What I can't get from one I jump to the other to try. It's really down to personal preference, but probably people feel that K1000 is that bit more popular because it updates more frequently, and not everyone likes Freedom Scientific (smile).

why do you feel  Kurzweil  1000 would be the better of the 2
given you  said "th the latest versions of these using
the same scanning engines, reliability should be pretty similar."
If they both perform just as well as each other,  is it a case of
Kurzweil  1000 easier to use?
It's more expensive  I understand, is the extra cost worth it?
