Stop it Ibby. You're making me ever so slightly envious over this scanner (smiles).

Hi Derik,
the Canoscan Lide 70 scanner by canon should be ok as it seems to be a model up from one I have used. However, The one I am going to get is the Opticbook
3600 which is a great scanner. This will work with both Openbook and
Kurzweil. This scanner also allows you to scan a book right up to the spine.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Kindest Regards,

Ibby Karbhari

Derek, I couldn't comment on your scanner because I've had my Epson for a
long time and it still performs well. But while I've nothing against the
spec of the Tosh they are recommending, I wouldn't look past an HP now
because, having had mine for three months, it's never off. I've never
really got into laptops for a lot of reasons, but the HP models are
brilliant for the fact they have the numeric keypad, and I think that's
helpful to save trying to remember JFW combined keystrokes. Obviously
you'll be using it for study or work purposes, so putting music through it
might be an aside, but the HP is brill for that too.

If you can customise the software that sometimes comes with HP and Compaq
machines, you're laughing I reckon. But it's down to personal choice, and
others here might say different, and that's what makes it interesting.

Good luck.

Jackie

Hi All
Any views regarding the following.
My local authority is looking at funding equipment for me
and they are recommending:

"Toshiba satellite pro laptop A200 with 1GB ram memory, with windows
XP pro included."

Is this a good choice for Jaws and a scanner?

"Jaws update to number 8 from"

Iassume if jaws was bought next year it would be Jaws9

"Canoscan Lide 70 scanner by canon and Openbook from (latest high
specification OCR software)

Is this a good choice for the scanner?

Regards, Derek
