Hi Adrian,

Just covered this topic on the JAWS-UK list yesterday.

In this instance, I've a suggestion, and some tips.

1) If you speak French, go to http://www.google.fr and after
you have entered the search string, and before you press
"Recherche Google", make sure you check one of the radio
buttons - either "Pages francophones" or "Pages : France" -
which is much the same as checking the UK's "Pages from the
UK" button. You will still get a bunch of dot coms, but at
least it will narrow things down considerably.

2) If you wish to include a word in a search, put a + (plus
sign) unspaced in front of the word. If you wish to exclude
a word, put a - (minus sign) unspaced in front of the word.
For example:

-Adrian +Collins

would return results containing "Collins", but none of the
results would contain "Adrian".

My next favourite tip is to include specific phrases in
quotation marks. So if I was to look for:-

"Adrian Collins"

then those two words would have to appear exactly as shown.
Otherwise without the quotes it could also find things like,
"Adrian had a last name of Collins"

And you can also put the + (plus) and - (minus) signs in
front of quotes as well, for example

+"George Bell" -Freelists

would bring up only results which included "George Bell" but
would omit any which contained "Freelists".

Hope this helps you narrow down your results.

George.

Subject: [access-uk] searches in google

Hi

Please can somebody tell me how to narrow down a search in
google, for
example, if I'm looking for something only in France and not
anywhere else.
What do I have to do to narrow a search down?

I am trying to find suppliers of pc accessories in France
only and I don't
want suppliers all over the world to appear on my searches.

Regards

Adrien
