And you could use your Jaws cursor or the equivalent of that using your screen reader to read sent and received messages in the chat dialog box. If someone sent you a text just focus on the chat dialog box and start typing, the cursor will move to the edit box by itself. Press enter to send your message. I've always found text chatting using Skype more difficult than using MSN. Switching between PC and Jaws cursor makes me slow in responding in a chat; feels embarrassing sometimes! Never the less it's doable and with some practise you'll get used to it!

Go to the name in the contacts list and right mouse click, go down to start chat and press entre. Now type and press entre. If you have the scripts installed press alt and a number to here what the reply is, EG alt + 1 is the most recent thing said. If she's not in your contacts then go to the history tab and do the same.

Hi List,

I know that eventually I will buy J Mossen's tutorial on skype, but in the short term, I would like to know how to reply to written messages. E.g. I was chatting to a young woman from Shandong province in China and when our accents got in the way she would write what she was trying to say. I felt a bit inadequate when I could not respond in the same manner when my accent failed her. Any help will be much appreciated.
