In my local Tesco, we do have self service tills, but we also still have
tills with real people at the checkout. I have never used the self service
tills, but they do talk to you and instruct you what to do next. I imagine
you have to scan the bar codes, so that might be rather difficult. From
what I have heard, the instructions do seem very clear.

Hazel,

We have had similar facilities in ASDA for some time and I have used this
method to pay for items up to about 15 a number of times with a sighted
person. They always appear to have someone working in that area to help
those who can't work out what they're doing, but I can't see them ever
completely doing away with tills.
